This meatball recipe was a success; not only is it easy to make but it’s fun to do as well. I am the type of person who enjoys cooking with her hands, and so rolling meatballs was a lot of fun to me.
Before I start boring you with non-sense details, here is a list of the ingredients you need to make the meatballs and the tomato sauce.
Ingredients for meatballs:
- Approx 450g organic lean beef mince
- 1 organic free-range egg
- 2 organic egg whites
- 2 Tbsp dry basil (add more if you like)
- 2 Tbsp dry oregano
- 2 Tbsp dry thyme, I also added a tiny bit of lebanese zaartar with sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp dry rosemary
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp ground black pepper
- 1 Tbsp sriracha sauce (optional)
Ingredients for tomato sauce:
- 2 cans chopped tomatoes (no sugar or salt added)
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 9 cloves of garlic, minced
- 4 or five sun-dried tomatoes
- 2 Tbsp dry basil
- 2 Tbsp dry oregano
- 2 Tbsp dry thyme
- 2 Tbsp dry rosemary
- 1 Tbsp ground black pepper
- 1 Tbsp sriracha sauce (optional), I like my food spicy
Note: Feel free to add or reduce herbs
Directions for meatballs:
- Preheat oven to 175C
- Cover baking pan with foil
- Combine all meatball ingredients together, form into small balls and place them on your baking pan
- Place in the oven and cook for 25 to 30 min
Directions for tomato sauce:
- While your meatballs are in the oven, start preparing the sauce
- In a sauce pan, drizzle olive oil (on medium heat)
- Add garlic (stir for 2 min)
- Add onions
- Once onions are translucent, add all dry herbs. Make sure to stir properly in order to avoid burning them.
- Add chopped tomatoes (cans) and sun-dried tomatoes
- Once the sauce starts to bubble, lower the temperature and let the sauce simmer until the meatballs are done.
In the meantime you can cook your spaghetti; I had basil quinoa spaghetti.
Once meatballs and spaghetti are done, start serving food!
Place a little bit of spaghetti in your plate, add some meatballs and finish off by pouring some of the sauce. You have the option to place all the meatballs in the sauce, in order for them to get “juicy” .
I suggest listening to old Italian songs while cooking 🙂 always find ways to enjoy cooking; involve the people you love in the process; My husband makes the pasta because I somehow always manage to mess it up and we end up with gooey disgusting pasta.
I hope you enjoy this recipe and if you have any comments or suggestions on how to make this recipe even better, please comment below. We would love to hear what you have to say.
Buon appetito 🙂
